The semis are over!

The first day of the Dutch national playoffs is over. Tomorrow the finals and 3rd place games will take place.

It is Saturday June 12! Today teams from all over the country (and beyond/Belgium) will travel to Groningen to fight for their right to be in their division final. Some teams are allready in Groningen and have hopefully had a pleasant night next to the fields, waking up in the center of Dutch lacrosse for this weekend.

To all who can’t be there: keep an eye on Twitter, we will post updates and scores as soon as possible.

To all teams we say: good luck and may the best team win. Let’s get it on!

We are looking for volunteers!

Did your team not make it to the playoffs? Are you not eligible to play? Don’t worry, you can still be part of the biggest event in Dutch lacrosse history thusfar!

We are looking for volunteers to help us with al sorts of things: from collecting gamesheets to driving referees around or explaining lacrosse to the press. If you are a lacrosse enthiusiast we can really use your help.

If you want to help to raise Dutch lacrosse to yet a higher level, please get in contact with us. There are rewards for those who are willing to help us.

Update: Things Are Taking Shape!

With just two more weeks to go, things are really taking shape here in Groningen. A main sponsor has been contracted, the promotion of the event is really taking shape and almost everything to make the weekend a succes has been taken care off. Now we just need to know which teams will be coming to Groningen and then we can sort out the final details.

On the promotional front: the posters to promote the event troughout Groningen have been printed and will be placed at high schools, student faculties, bars and other hotspots in the next couple of days. Men’s lacrosse regular season coming to an end

With just two more gamedays, and one catch up day, the DNLL regular season is almost coming to an end and the playoffs are approaching. A good moment to look at the standings of the DNLL men’s divisions.

In the top division, number one Amsterdam Lions is sure to go into the playoffs as the number one seed. With seven wins out of eight games they are the top favorite for the national title. On places two and three are the Groningen Gladiators and the Maastricht Lamas, both having won five games and lost three. Groningen currently has the number two position on account of the number of goals scored, ten more than Maastricht. Upcoming Sunday the teams will play each other and decide who will go into the playoffs as number two.
The fourth playoffs spot is still up for grabs, in theory the entire bottom half can still make it to the playoffs. Utrecht seems to have the best chance with a 3-5 record, but has some tough games coming up against Amsterdam and Groningen. To be certain of a playoffs spot, they have to win one of these games, or make sure they score a whole load of goals. Rotterdam is currently number five, but has 8 more goals scored than Utrecht. If they manage to win either against number six Den Haag or number one Amsterdam, and manage to keep their scored goals record higher than Utrecht, they will get into the playoffs. Number six Den Haag is in the same situation, they have scored 4 more goals than Utrecht, and need to keep that advantage ánd win against Rotterdam or Maastricht.
In short: it is almost certain that one of the semi-finals of division 1 will be Groningen Gladiators against Maastricht Lamas, the other semi-final will not be certain before the very last gameday.

In the second division, the Delft Barons are undefeated and number one. They have put up an impressive winning streak of eight games. On second and third place are the Amsterdam Lions and Keizerstad Kannibalz, both with five wins and 3 losses. In persuit are the Tilburg Titans, who still have some games to catch up. Having only played 6 games thusfar, they have mostly easy games ahead, they have to play Den Haag and Emmen twice. These games can be considered relatively easy, as both Den Haag and Emmen are at the very bottom of the chart. Emmen has not won a single game this season, and Den Haag’s only victory of this season was against Emmen, with a one goal difference. If nothing out of the ordinary happens, the Tilburg Titans, Amsterdam Lions and Keizerstad Kannibalz and Delft Barons will battle for the national division 2 title in Groningen on June 12 and 13.

In division 3, it is also fairly certain who will be the final four teams. The Belgian Red Rhinos are number one, having won seven out of eight games. In second place is Dodgers United, with the same record but less goals scored. On places three and four are the Ghent Goblins and Groningen Gladiators, both with four games won. The Gladiators have the easiest road to the third posistion, with a game against number five Den Haag next week, whereas the Goblins have to take on number two Dodgers United. At the bottom of division 3 are Den Haag, with only one game won, and the combination Rotterdam 2/Zwolle with seven losses.

T-shirt slogan contest

At the playoffs there will be a limited edition T-shirt sale. Of course, a lacrosse T-shirt would not be lax without a catchy lacrosse slogan. That is why we are starting the DNLL Playoffs 2010 Slogan Contest. In the next two weeks you can drop your suggestions in the comments below. The five best slogans will be selected and a poll will decide the final winner.

Lacrosse Groningen has been awarded the playoffs!

The 2010 DNLL playoffs for men’s division 1, 2 and 3 and women’s division 1 will take place in Groningen! The NLB board liked our proposal and has given us the go ahead to organize the final weekend of the Dutch National Lacrosse League! Lacrosse Groningen is proud to have been awarded the playoffs and will now set everything into motion to make this grand event a succes.

The proposal has been sent to the NLB!

The Lacrosse Groningen board has handed in the proposal for the 2010 playoffs. Now, we must wait until the NLB boardmembers will make their decision…

Main points of the proposal were:

- Three adjoining sand filled artificial grass fields, guaranteed.
- A campsite next to the fields, which is available two nights (Friday and Saturday).
- A grand lacrosse plaza, with all sorts of lacrosse stalls and activities.
- Almost unlimited parking in the nearby area which is also free of charge.
- The chance to help a new lacrosse club in Groningen grow: Martinistad Lacrosse.
